Name: Connally AKA Nelly

DOB: 3/5/2016

Weight: 24 lbs

Adoption Fee: 375.00

Hey everyone! My name is Connally, but you can call me Nelly. I came from Texas originally.  A little bit about me...I am heartworm positive, but don’t let that deter you! I will be completely healthy again very soon.  I am a sweet girl who loves to be by my person's side. I am super cuddly, loves to be rubbed, and when I look into your eyes with my big browns your heart will melt. I sit on command, and respond well to good girl, wait, off, and leave it. A sharp 'no' calls me back even when I'm excited. R ewarding my response with love is super appreciated.

My time on the street and in the shelter has left me a little anxious so the front yard is too stimulating. On walks when I am on high alert I respond well to stopping and being rubbed with the cue to 'relax', before getting going again. It may take me a bit of time to trust that my people will keep me safe. I am not bothered by cars or bicycles, but can be cautious with people and other animals so very slow intros are a must. I may be best as the only pet. We will try socializing with a secure pack though and I'll send an update on how she's doing.

I am mostly potty trained. The sounds and smells of the backyard are an endless source of entertainment, and I love to hunt anything that moves quickly, including a thrown tennis ball. I love to entertain myself with toys, bones and balls. I love to chew, but am easily redirected if I begin to chew on the wrong thing.

I am rather thin from life on the street but have been eating really good and gaining weight quickly. I am super clever and quickly figured out the puzzle feeder! I am a loving, playful and smart girl! My foster calls me the full package.

Since Nelly is heartworm positive she will need to be treated in at our clinic in Princeton.

Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos.

Here is a great article explaining what heartworm is and how it's treated: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.

All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).
