Spike is a sweet old man looking for a calm home to call his own. He came to rescue as a bit of a grump, but he's been getting happier every day as he gets some much need TLC. Spikes favorite daytime activity is sleeping on a big dog bed near you. His favorite evening activity is to go exploring, even if he's just exploring the living room or backyard! He has Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), which means he has some activity restrictions. He's more of a homebody than a hiking buddy. He LOVES food and does some incredibly cute hopping with excitement before he eats.
Spike would do best in a home where he doesn't need to go up or down stairs and in a home with no young kids. Spike's IVDD sometimes makes it so he can't control his bowels, so he might need to wear diapers.
However now that he is on pain killers once a day, he is noticeably happier, more stable on his feet, and has fewer accidents in the house when he is taking them. He’s been doing pretty well re-potty training. He typically only has accidents now if he’s alone for too long or wakes up from a nap and is alone.
Spike loves to be around his people so if you're looking for a sweet boy to keep you company, let Spike come home and explore your house!
An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal. Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals! All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs). Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept.
