Hey everyone! My name is Peakie. I am heartworm positive, but don’t let that deter you! I will be completely healthy again very soon. Since I have heartworm right now, I’m available through the foster to adopt program.

I’m Peakie! I am good with children of all ages (but due to my jumpiness and ease of knocking children over I shouldn't be placed with really young children), adults and all dogs!I have been described as a happy dog! I like to play with my toys and go on walks. I have been pretty good at potty training and picked up on what to do very fast! I sleep in my crate well, no problems. I enjoy being around the other dogs in my current home but I like to burn and run off my energy!

Find out more about the foster to adopt program here: https://blog.ruffstartrescue.org/fta/

Since Peakie is heartworm positive.  She will need to be treated in at our clinic in St Cloud.

Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos.

Here is a great article explaining what heartworm is and how it's treated: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics

An adoption application is the first step in the foster to adopt program.
