Hi there, my name is Cane! I'm an active boy that thrives on activity and enrichment and would do best in a quiet household with few visitors that can take me for regular walks/runs and romps in the yard and keep my mind busy. In turn, I'll provide you with cuddles, kisses and loyalty.
I walk and run well on a harness, until I see something that interests me - I have a "squirrel" brain! I have developed some reactivity to passing vehicles, people and dogs, so I need a patient family to continue redirecting me. I do most of my business outside - they tell me that I'm 95% potty-trained, whatever that means! I know "sit", "down" and "touch" and am quickly picking up other tricks. When I eat breakfast, dinner or any treats, I have learned to sit and wait nicely until I'm released. I am crate trained and currently sleep there overnight and during the day when I'm unsupervised. Loving both treats and toys, there is plenty to motivate me.
I'm still a puppy at heart and need someone to help provide me with consistent boundaries and teach me what's appropriate behavior. I love chewing and sometimes have a hard time distinguishing couch pillows, shoes and remotes from my toys. But trade it out for an antler or a rubber chew toy, and I'm happy! When excited and in a playful mood, I can get jumpy and mouthy and, sometimes, even a little zoomy. Before now, no one told me this was bad, how was I to know?
I need a strong, confident person dedicated to continuing my training and who won't be intimidated by my occasional antics. I do best if you're able to consistently and calmly redirect me.
I love playing with other dogs and adjust my play style accordingly. After play dates and treats, chewing/chasing sticks and watching squirrels are my next favorite things. I briefly lived with cats for a few days and did well meeting a cat during my time with my foster, so I would likely be okay with them, as long as you introduce us slowly.
If you are a strong leader looking for a running partner, snuggle buddy, or maybe just a best friend, I might be the right fit for you!
