Mooshoo is the smartest dog his foster has ever worked with (and she's been around a lot of dogs)! He knows sitdown (lay down), comestay, and ok (when it's ok for him to exit and enter the front door behind a person) and almost understands and follows the commands drop and kennel. He's house trained. Being such an intelligent puppy, he needs help staying out of trouble. He spends the majority of the day in his crate with productive (training) let-outs. He pulls at the leash but is improving every day in giving his foster his attention when she redirects. He whines a little bit in his crate sometimes, but knows he won't get attention when he does this. It happens less and less often. Initially he barked in the crate, but he discovered that this doesn't work, either, and is a rare occurrence. He is quick to pick up on new habits.

If he's left unattended, even in cordoned off spaces, he will be tempted to find something new to chew on. In fact, he still needs to learn what to do with his chewing urges--until then, anything nearby may be up for grabs (including furniture/walls/doors). His previous family returned him due to guarding a bone, and his current foster hasn't addressed this, although he shows no aggressive behavior. His training sessions are kept short so he doesn't lose focus or get over excited. When he gets over excited he may bark, bite, and jump. He could be a good cuddler, but he needs to figure out how to self soothe his chewing before getting living room rights (with its many temptations).

His perfect match would be someone with a fenced-in yard who is interested in training a very intelligent dog and has the time and patience to do so slowly and is willing to wait for cuddles and free range of the house until Mooshoo can understand what acceptable behavior looks like.

In the meantime if you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org.

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.
