Hello, I'm Elijah! I just finished my heartworm treatment and I am ready to play! I love other dogs and always want to make friends. Sometimes I'm a little too excited and vocal when I meet new friends, but I know they all secretly want to be my best friend. I'll need someone to make sure I don't play too hard because I miss dogs' cues often and have trouble listening when I'm excited. I really need to run around at the dog park every day if I don't live with other dogs who can tire me out. When I'm inside, you might find me staring out the window at all the action I think I'm missing, or munching on one of many toys because I LOVE to chew. Once I'm tired out, I am the biggest snugglebug (lapdog alert!), and I always want to make sure you know how much I love rubs. And my crocodile, but mostly rubs.
Even though I seem ready for anything, I'm slower to warm up and developed a stronger bond with one of my foster parents than the other. I'll need someone patient to help me know that wearing a sweater and trimming my nails won't hurt me. Sometimes I get scared and snap when I feel afraid, or when I'm eating. I can also be unsure meeting new people when they want to come into my home. I would do best in a home without small children.
I'm kennel trained, I'm getting better at 'drop,' and tugging on my leash. I also love to pounce on bushes and see what I scare up! I'm generally a goofy sweetheart who loves life. I'm highly treat motivated, and I would definitely benefit from obedience classes. With a patient, loving home, I will be an absolute joy full of love to give!

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.
All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).
Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept.
