Hi, I'm Hercules, a 4 or 5 year old happy boy! My foster mom says I am as sweet as I am cute.
I haven't been feeling the best, being positive for heartworm, but my foster mom thinks I'll be a very playful boy once I'm healed. I'm really mellow and lay around a lot wherever she is, but squeaky toys and bouncing balls get me up and make her laugh every day.
She says I'm really smart, and I'm already learning not to bolt out of doors, without her permission.
I know all of my basic commands, and walk pretty good on a leash too, unless I see a furry creature. Then, I take my foster mom by complete surprise with how strong and fast I am. She thinks I'd do best with a yard and a strong high fence, because I'm an escape artist. She found that out while we've been working on crate training.
I'd love if you'd be my forever home, and I'll be your forever faithful and cuddly best friend.

*Since Hercules is heartworm positive he will need to be treated in at our clinic in Princeton. Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos.   Here is a great article explaining what heartworm is and how it's treated: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics

In the meantime if you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org.

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.

Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!

All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).
