Hi there, my name is Odin! I'm a Southern boy who originally comes from Texas and I'm so glad to be here in Minnesota, I've heard the best forever families are found here! Like many dogs from the South I am heartworm positive, but don't let that scare you, I'll be back to my healthy self in no time! I absolutely love to spend time with my people and become bonded to them fairly quick. I'm a well behaved boy but do have some separation anxiety that will require continued work and dedication from my new forever family.
I am a big lap dog and will take every opportunity possible to be close to you and cuddle, whether invited to or not! I love toys, you'll often find me carrying my stuffed toys around the house and snuggling up with them when it's time for a nap. I'm a smart boy and already know a few basic commands, like "sit" and "come"! I'm even potty trained too! I enjoy the company of other dogs and like most anxious pups, benefit from a confident canine friend to look up to. Because of this I will require a home with another dog to keep me company, especially while my family is away. I've met a cat in my foster home as well, although curious of her I didn't bother her too much and would likely do okay with a dog savvy cat. I am extremely anxious when left alone and will try to break out of the kennel or space that I'm left in while you are gone. When I get so worked up I have the potential of hurting myself in the process and will need a family that is willing to help me through my anxieties safely. I'm working on getting more comfortable in my kennel, but it won't happen overnight! I also need a home without shared walls, so no apartments for me, as I can be quite vocal while you are away- I am a hound afterall!
I can't wait to start my new forever in Minnesota and leave my past behind! With a little bit of love, patience, commitment and routine I know that I can grow into the strong and confident boy that I can't wait to be! Do you have room in your heart and home for a handsome boy like me?!
Since Odin is heartworm positive he will need to be treated at our clinic in Princeton.
Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos.
An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.
Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!
