Hi, my name is Buddy the Elf! I came all the way from Texas, where I grew up on the streets with my sisters. Now I’ve been in Minnesota for a little while, and am ready to find my forever home! I’m very smart, and also very food-oriented, so I’ll be very easy for you to train. I’m already potty-trained, and know basics like sit, stay, come, and lay down. But sometimes I’m so smart, I’ll only do them if I can see treats in your hands! I’m crate trained, and like to sleep in there at night after an extra good treat and some quiet time with my foster to settle me down. My fosters say that I’m really good in the house, and with lots of toys around I like to pay more attention to them than getting into trouble. Squeaky stuffed toys are great, and lots of things for me to chew on keep me happy – I don’t really like ropes or tennis balls, so I don’t understand the big deal with fetch or tug. I don’t beg for food from my fosters, but I am always really excited when I get my food, and sometimes eat it too fast! Having to work to get my food is lots of fun, and I like to try to sniff it out. I’m in an apartment right now, so I get to go on LOTS of walks, and I love having loads of things around to smell. I like to go outside a lot, so I would love to have someone who’s active, and I even think I’d like to run with you if you’d help teach me. I’m getting a lot better on the leash, but still need a little bit of work with someone to train me to be just right. When I get to exercise a lot, I am really well behaved inside the house, and like to sleep to save up my energy for the next walk! I always want to be near my fosters- at least in the same room even though I don’t necessarily need to be curled up with them. Kids are so much fun – although they need to be able to handle my puppy energy! Little kids are funny to lick in the face, and older kids are fun to wrestle with. I’m not entirely sure about other dogs yet though. I can get along with them if we’re introduced slowly, and I like to play around. But when I get tired of playing, I can get defensive, and don’t really like other dogs being near me then. A bit of quiet time in my crate usually helps me to calm down until I’m ready to play again. When I see another dog outside, or when I’m on a walk and see another dog, I like to bark to let them know that I want to play! Having a lot of dogs around at once can be overwhelming for me though, and I get a bit scared. I’d prefer to be the only dog in the house so that I get all your attention and don’t have to worry about sharing my food & water. But it would be nice to get to socialize more with other dogs, or even take a class to learn to be better! The best three words to summarize me are intelligent, curious, and energetic. Will you be my forever home?” An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.
